Purple Swans Corporation Hosts Youth Mental Health First Aid Training, Empowering Parents to Support Teens

Summit, NJ — On September 28, the Purple Swans Corporation and the Mental Health Association in New Jersey teamed up to deliver a seven-hour “Youth Mental Health First Aid” workshop at the Summit Community Center. The training provided critical tools to help parents and caregivers address the mental health challenges that teenagers often face. The program, designed to review typical adolescent development and teach a “five-step action plan” for assisting youth in both crisis and non-crisis situations, was enthusiastically received by all attendees. According to a post-training survey, 100% of participants recommended the course. Purple Swans Corporation has partnered with the Mental Health Association in New Jersey since 2018 to offer the Youth Mental Health First Aid training program. This training workshop continued an ongoing effort to empower adults who frequently interact with teenagers aged 12 to 18. The seven-hour session, led by experts from the Mental Health Association in New Jersey, covered vital topics such as anxiety, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, and other mental health challenges that adolescents encounter. Attendees highlighted the interactive nature of the training as especially helpful, with one participant noting, “Role-playing and case exercises greatly helped us understand the content taught.” The training comes at a critical time, as mental health challenges among teenagers in the U.S. continue to rise. Recognizing this growing need, Purple Swans Corporation called to actions on all levels to continue education, training and support. The next whole-day training work shop is scheduled on December 15 at Summit Community Center.
